Why do you need an HR professional?

What do I need an HR professional for is a question I’m often asked. 

Well, have you got any employees? And even if you say one, I will say I presume you have a contract of employment? I presume you’ve checked whether they have the right to work in the UK?

Have you inducted them? Have you got policies in place? And have you got procedures like what do you do if they’re sick? How do they apply for holidays?

What happens if someone asks for flexible working and you have certain duties or timelines to respond to, what to consider? 

How would you manage all that without HR? 

You don’t have to have HR staff employed in your business, but you should have someone at the end of the phone, either on a retainer, or just there on an ad hoc basis.
